Iftaar Hosted By the U.S. State Department

This is a funny little post that I thought some might enjoy, it is concerning U.S. State Secretary Rice and her speech at an iftaar sponsored by the U.S. State Department during Ramadan of last year. Condi began her speech first praising the Diplomatic Corps and then acknowledging who she deemed as the “civil society” and “faith-based communities” saying,
“Good evening. Ramadan Kareem. Ladies and gentlemen, I am honored that the distinguished members of the Diplomatic Corps could be here this evening and I am very pleased at the representation of our civil society and faith-based communities.” (C. Rice)
Although an invitation to the State Department’s Iftaar would be flattering, I don’t think I would like to break my fast in this kind of environment. I prefer the relaxed environment of family, good friends and respected guests during iftaar. This year my family will be sharing our iftaar with just that: family, good friends and respected guests.
Yeah its really funny. I also read in newspaper today that George.W. Bush has invited President Musharaf and Karzai on Iftar to discuss things.
