Yes, and it could have been put on hold solely because Iran needed to develop enough centrifuges for uranium enrichment to further the weapons program. I’m not saying that is the case, but it could be.

Essentially I’m suggesting that you – and everyone else – not to read to much into that report. It’s good, but not definitive.

as-salaamu ‘alaikum. jonolan, nothing in life definitive except for death. That is a “report” we can all count on, that one day we will leave this Earth. Maybe today; maybe tomorrow; maybe years from now; but that day is coming for all of us. Essentially, we should be preparing for this instead of preemptive political and military strategies. But perhaps I’m just a goofy sufi, what do I know?

  • jonolan says:

Then I’m a goofy pagan, because in general I agree with your sentiment. Perhaps though, seeking truth in all things and striving to ensure the best-in-the-eyes-of-heaven path chosen by us and our brothers is preparing for this.

    To paraphrase:
Perhaps Allah made this world to test the faithful.

    To paraphrase:

…what jonolan said, in the above, minus the ‘Perhaps.’

  • jonolan says:

    hassan,

I must include the ‘Perhaps’; who am I to say that I know why a god did anything?

  • James says:

The National Intelligence Estimate is the real deal. It is compiled by thirteen different agencies eight of which are part of the Department of Defense. What it means that the Iranians won’t have anything that goes kerboom until 2012 at best. That punctures the Bushite Mushroom-cloud cassius belli that they have been pitching for the last year.

True, we can’t break out the the (halal) sparkling apple cider yet, but for now the NeoCons have been outmaneuvered. An air attack on Iran is now much harder to justify. We might just squeak through the next 409 days without starting another war of aggression against a Muslim nation.

  • jonolan says:

    James,

I think you’ve made a good estimate of the timeframes and the effects those timeframes should have on US action re. Iran.

I also wonder how much of the US’ rhetoric was “real” and how much of it was geared to affect the March ’08 parliamentary elections in Iran. A shift in power in Iran could be very beneficial to the US…
