Tricks of the Tirade: Hagee, God and Israel

I knew that this would hit the blogosphere sooner or later but I didn’t think that Americans could be suckered into believing the self-righteous claims of Evangelist John Hagee. I guess I was wrong, as he held a lecture in Washington for nearly 4000 Americans who applauded and cheered the man as he arrogantly suggested that Israel is doing God’s work in a “war against evil”. Hagee’s agenda is best illustrated in statement where he summarizes his own efforts saying,
“After 25 years of hammering away at the truth on national television, millions of people have come to see the truth of the word of God… there is literally a groundswell of support for Israel in the USA among evangelicals.” (J. Hagee qtd. in The Age)
This kind of fanticism is called Christian Zionism which is a growing movement driven by evangelicals in a call for support of the Jewish-State. These evangelicals have the support of high ranking officials which include our President G.W. Bush and others, the title “Trick of the Tirade” implies that while evangalists like this screech and holler about Israel, financial support is given to these organisations to spread their message. However, they are not only influencing religious beliefs but political power as well, as the followers of Hagee and others will likely bring a old/new method to swing voters this way or that way, what a mess… na’uduu billah.
