Update on Religion Around the World
February 11, 2008 by Saifuddin
I’ve been trying to make as much use of my iPod as possible. One of the ways I’ve trying to accomplish this is by keeping up with current events through podcasts. This morning I ran across a very interesting podcast hosted by NPR (National Public Radio) which made mention of three new developments in religion around the globe. The first is progress concerning the headscarf ban in Turkey; the second is a look into the religious rhetoric of Mike Huckabee, a very interesting analysis of his public speeches shows only a minority understand him. And lastly, the popular British Archbishop who says, “[British] Law Must Accommodate Muslims.”

Beware the Podcasts, they will slowly take over your life. The BBC has several good Podcasts as does NPR. You would be surprised to see all the audio books iTunes has available. I found a course on “The Historical Jesus” via “iTunes U” for free also. If you aren’t careful you might not have time for anything else. I would say more but I have to get back to “American Theocracy” by Kevin Phillips, plus there is the Rachel Maddow show to listen to and the Chalmers Johnson audiobooks to wade through and Taylor Marsh will be available soon.

as-salaamu ‘alaikum James. inshaAllah, I will heed your warning and try not to allow “Podcasts” to take over my life. Oh and thank you for the list of iTunes podcasts, inshaAllah, I will check them out. James if you are into podcasts perhaps you would like to check out “Before Armageddon”, this is the podcast series of our Grand Shaykh’s talks with the larger community of listeners.
