as-salaamu ‘alaikum, I just received a notice from M.E.C.C.A. (Muslim Education Convert Center of America) saying that they are offering a new course for muslimat (ladies). The course is Basic Quran Reading, masha’allah, and its designed to help the beginner learn how to read and recite the al-qur’an al-karim (The Holy Qur’an). The course will be taught by sis. Fatima Jilani, who has studied the science of tajwid (see Qur’anic recitation) in the United States and Syria. The classes will be held at the New York Islamic Center on E. 96th and 3rd avenue; the course begins on July 31st and will continue until September 2nd, insha’allah.Class times are as follows:
- Tuesdays: 6:30 - 8pm
and
- Sundays: 11am - 12:30am
The cost is $40, that is for the complete 10 weeks (2 classes per week)! This includes course materials. And if I may interject here, this is a very good deal. The people at M.E.C.C.A. are great and they have well established support in the Islamic community here in the United States, although I do not know sis. - Reading words with spelling

- Rules of nun sakinah and tanween

- Reading words with shadd
