Islamic Roundup Featuring Lupe Fiasco

On June 24, 2007 – last Sunday – the Inner-City Muslim Action Network (IMAN) had its, Takin it to the Streets, concert and gathering. In this event there were a number of famous faces of the Music industry and traditional Islamic scholars as well as everything else in between. It was truly a cornucopia of American Muslims. One of the headlining acts was rapper Wasalu Muhammad Jaco better known as Lupe Fiasco.
Lupe Fiasco a proud Muslim, who took the world by storm with his freely distributed release of, Muhammad Walks (hat-tip, Mujahideen Ryder), a revised rendition of Kanye West’s, Jesus Walks, performed last Sunday at the event as reported in the Chicago Tribune saying,
“Fiasco, born Wasalu Muhammad Jaco, said he decided to perform at the event in order to put a different face on Islam. Other popular entertainers like actor-rapper Mos Def and comedian Dave Chappelle have begun speaking out about their Islamic faith, surprising some of their fans who probably didn’t realize they were Muslims.”
Fiasco, who is set to kick off a new super group, Child Rebel Soldier, featuring Kanye West and Pharrell Williams may release their first joint album as soon as 2008.
